R.I.P. - Pete Postlethwaite

I have some sad news to start off the week. Actor Pete Postlethwaite died on Sunday at the age of 64. He passed away after a long battle with cancer according to BBC News.

Postlethwaite had a great career that spanned 40 years of roles on stage and screen. His facial features made him instantly recognizable and were perfect for a character actor portraying a number of working-class characters over the years.

Most recently he starred in Inception and The Town. His best known performance was as Daniel Day-Lewis' father in the political drama In the Name of the Father, which earned him a best-supporting-actor Oscar nomination. He also had very memorable roles in The Usual Suspects, Brassed Off and Amistad. He was able to cross-over from indie roles to star in films such as Alien 3, Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet, Clash of the Titans and The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Steven Spielberg dubbed Postlethwaite the "best actor in the world," after his performance in Jurassic Park.

I agree, he was one of the best charactor actors in the world. Even though his roles were mostly supporting, they carried enough wait for him to command the screen during each of his scenes. He leaves a legacy of great performances.

Here are my personal favorite Pete Postlethwaite films:

The Last of the Mohicans

The Lost World: Jurassic Park

Romeo + Juliet

The Constant Gardener

The Usual Suspects

Inception

The Town
