Stephen Sommers will not be Directing G.I. JOE 2!
Oh, thank you! Director Stephen Sommers is no longer attached to direct G.I. Joe 2! How awesome is that! I couldn't be happier that the man who (in my eyes) singlehandedly killed the G.I. Joe franchise with G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, is no longer attached to direct the sequel. Sommers is a terrible director, and his G.I. Joe movie was a joke.
Apparently other filmmakers have been approached by Paramount Studios to direct the film. The LA Times reports that, "Two agents who represent other filmmakers have said they'd recently been approached about their clients coming on to helm the movie and were told that Sommers would not be getting behind the camera. Paramount declined to comment."
There's no word on who these directors are. But, while the studio is at it, why don't they just reboot the whole G.I. Joe film franchise with an all new cast, and start over with a movie actually worth watching. There is so much potential with this franchise, this could have been something awesome and great! They just went about it all wrong the first time around.
