Gerard Butler to star in HUNTER KILLER

Gerard Butler is set to star in Hunter Killer for Relativity Media. Variety reports that the Machine Gun Preacher star has re-teamed with studio for the Antoine Fuqua-directed film. The film is based on the novel "Firing Point" by George Wallace and Don Keith. It follows "an untested submarine captain who must work with a Navy SEAL team to rescue Russia's president, who's taken prisoner during a military coup. The two sides team to stop a rogue Russian general from igniting World War III."

Butler would play "Capt. Joe Glass, the commander of the USS Toledo." Avatar's Sam Worthington is being eyed for the role of "Bill Beaman, the leader of a special Navy SEAL unit called the Dev Group." Hunter Killer is being produced by Original Film's Neal Moritz and Toby Jaffe with Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh. A winter start date is being considered for the film to meet a scheduled release date of Dec. 21, 2012.

I have not been a big fan of Butler's work since 300, so I hope that this is a lot better. What are your thoughts?
