PINOCCHIO Prequel to be Directed by Shawn Levy

Real Steel director Shawn Levy is attached to direct a Pinocchio film project for 20th Centuy Fox called The Three Misfortunes of Geppetto. The studio picked up the spec script from Michael Vukadinovich

According to Deadline the film is a prequel that will tell "the story of Pinocchio, in which Geppetto endures a life of misfortune, war and adventure, all to be with Julia Moon, his true love. The sweep is reminiscent of Big Fish orThe Princess Bride and it creates a fresh way into the Pinocchio story at a time when revisionist fairy tales are dominating the movie landscape."

This isn't the first Pinocchio film to go into production recently. Last year Warner Bros. last year set up a live action Pinocchio film that Tim Burton might end up directing. There hasn't been much movement on that movie though.

The next film Levy is going to direct is a Frankenstien project for Fox written by Max Landis. I think Levy did an OK job bringing the film Real Steel to life, but I don't think he's got what it takes to make an awesome Frankenstein film. Pinocchio on the other hand seems like a film project that he is better suited for. What do you think?
