Megan Ellison financing Gore Verbinski's BITTERROOT with Chris Milk directing

Movie Gore Verbinski by

Megan Ellison has found her next project with the help of Gore Verbinski. Deadline reports that Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures has bought and will finance a drama titled Bitterroot. The movie will mark the feature film directorial debut of Chris Milk, who is known for directing some inventive music videos. Michael Gilio wrote the script, which will be produced by Verbinski's Blink Wink along with Aversano via his Aversano Films banner.

Bitterroot has been Verbinski's passion project, and was initially set up for him to direct at Universal. He has decided to produced since he is focused on The Lone Ranger.  The film was initially called Black Hole, and tells the story of "an aging rancher in Montana who gets swindled out of his life savings in a bank scam. When nobody seems to be accountable, the rancher saddles up his horse, puts on his duster, grabs his guns and trots off to Bitterroot to get his money back."

Milk is a very talented and creative music video and commercial director, and has directed videso U2, Kanye West, Green Day, Gnarls Barkley and Chemical Brothers.. He first gained attention for directing a commercial for the Nintendo 64 game Battle Tanx. Since then he has directed videos such as The Johnny Cash Project, a tribute video that featured a collage of drawings provided by fans. Most recently he directed the video for Arcade Fire's We Used To Wait for Google Chrome. The video had viewers enter the address of where they grew up. This allowed Google Maps to take visuals of each viewer’s childhood neighborhoods and mix them into to personalize each video.

I am interested to see this film because of the story of a man taking on the corporate system and becasue Milk seems to be primed for awesomeness. Here is the BattleTanx commercial to prove how great he is. Watch it and let me know your thoughts.
