Nic Cage's Action Comics #1 breaks records selling for $2,161,000
The most expensive comic of all time has just been sold. Blastr reports that the Action Comics #1 from 1938, once owned by Nic Cage, brought in $2,161,000 at an auction today.This comic is pretty special, Superman was first introduced in this comic.
The comic also has an interesting back story. Cage paid the high price of $150,000 in 1997. It was subsequently stolen from Cage in 2000 only to be recovered later in April of 2011. It was found inside a storage locker in the San Fernando Valley by the Los Angeles Police Department's Art Theft Detail. There are 10 copies of the comic in this good a condition. It has an official 9.0 grade from the census making very near mint condition. It was even checked by Certified Guaranty Company in New Jersey, the gold-standard of comic book grading services.
