Captain America's Hayley Atwell is set to star in The Return Of Captain Nemo. Deadline reports that the $10 million 3D sequel to 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. She will star opposite David Morrissey (Red Riding Trilogy) in the action adventure to be directed by Pearry Teo. Filming is slated to begin January 16 in Romania.

Atwell will play Sara, while Morrissey plays her uncle, "the chief adviser to President Ulysses S Grant, who frees Nemo from prison to try and discover why mysterious “sea monsters” are sinking ships up and down the Atlantic Coast." Nemo will be played by Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey).

This steampunk version will reportedly feature some cool designs such as a 19th century Air Force One and of course, the Nautilus. Financing is being wrapped up by producer Amy Krell. Once financing is in hand, this indie version could sail ahead of Disney’s 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, which is being directed by David Fincher for $150 million.

I am interested in seeing what they can do with this lower budget. I will end up watching both films, but can't help but root for the indie. I love Fincher and am behind any project he is involved in. What are your thoughts on this news?
