Top 5 Mobster Movies - THE HIT getting remade

We have put together a list of our Top 5 Mobster Movies in honor of The Hit being remade for American audiences. Variety reports that director Stephen Frears and producer Jeremy Thomas are reuniting with writer Peter Prince to develop a remake of their 1984 British gangster road movie, The Hit. Usually I am not a fan of most remakes, but since this is from the original directors I am interested in seeing what they come up with.

Here is the list of our Top 5 Mobster Movies:

5. The Departed
Great modern-day Mobster movie with a fantastic ensemble cast. This is one of my favorite Leonardo DiCaprio roles. Jack Nicholson is the perfect bad guy in this.

4. The Godfather I and II
These Francis Ford Coppola movies are classic Mobster tales that are a must-watch. Yeah they are long, but they are wonderful.

3. Donnie Brasco
Johnny Depp and Al Pacino are pefect on screen together. This movie is a must watch.

2. Casino
I love Goodfellas, but this has to be my favorite Martin Scorcese mobster movie by far. Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro in old Vegas with Sharon Stone in her best role to date.

1. The Untouchables
Brian De Palma did a wonderful job with this film dealing with Al Capone and Prohibition. Robert De Niro is awesome as Capone, but Kevin Costner and Sean Connery are perfect on screen together.

The original had John Hurt and Tim Roth as “hitmen hired by the London mob to kidnap an informer, played by Terence Stamp, from his Spanish hideaway and bring him to Paris for execution. But the incompetence of the hitmen means that nothing goes to plan.” The remake is currenlty in the early stages of development, moves the action to Mexico and the U.S.

I need to see the original to really give my thoughts on this remake, but it sounds intriguing. As I said, the fact that the original team is behind it is perfect. What are your thoughts on this list of our Top 5 Mobster Movies?
