Angelina Jolie in talks to star in Luc Besson dramatic thriller

Angelina Jolie may be set to star next in a dramatic thriller after coming off of her feature directorial and screenwriting debut In the Land of Blood and Honey. Deadline reports that she is in talks for the untitled big-scale movie to be written and directed by Luc Besson. The thriller is reportedly similar to Besson’s early films such as The Professional, La Femme Nikita and The Fifth Element. Jolie is currently in “serious talks” to star in the film that “is rooted in true scientific elements” next spring. As usual with Besson projects it is being developed and financed by EuropaCorp.

This film is slated to film before Jolie teams with director Ridley Scott on the Gertrude Bell historical epic, which is being rewritten by Jeffrey Caine (The Constant Gardener). It is very likely that both of these films will land at the same studio.

Jolie is also likely to star in Maleficent, the revisionist take on Sleeping Beauty penned by Linda Woolverton for Walt Disney Pictures. She is also getting closer to playing medical examiner Kay Scarpetta in the Fox 2000 drama based on the Patricia Cornwell novel series. All of these films sound like a nice mix of projects for Jolie. I really would love to see her do a sequel to Salt personally, but her schedule is pretty busy now.

What are your thoughts?
