Emma Watson is rumored to be starring opposite Taylor Lautner in Catherine Fisher’s Incarceron series. Watson is now the frontrunner to play the role of Claudia. This would meant that she has beaten out Blake Lively and Jennifer Lawrence. A director is not currently attached, but it's script was written by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage (Moby Dick).
Here is the book's storyline via Amazon:
“Finn is a 17-year old prisoner of Incarceron. His memories begin and end there. He knows nothing about his heritage except for vague memories that tease at his mind. The teen is determined to escape the prison fashioned centuries ago as a solution to the chaos created by man. Now Incarceron is self-sustaining and self-perpetuating—prisoners are born there and they die there. Legend claims only one man has ever escaped, Sapphique, and Finn is determined to follow in his steps. Claudia, the warden’s daughter, lives sequestered in a castle surrounded by servants. But she, too, longs for escape—from a father who frightens her and from betrothal to an insipid prince. Finn and Claudia each discover a crystal key and are amazed to find that they can communicate with each other. As their trust in one another builds, each pledges to help the other. The two stories emerge, intertwine and, by the end, unwind in startling twists that will astonish listeners.”
Sapphique, the second book in the series, was released in December. It's not clear how many more books Fisher has lined up, but it there will definitely be more than than the current two books. 20th Century Fox owns the rights to the entire series, so we could see more films on the way for sure.
Watson has made some smart choices since finishing the Harry Potter franchise. She will next been seen in a small role in My Week With Marilyn and is confimed to star in the feature adaptation of The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
I am extremely excited about this pairing, because it brings together the Twilight and Potter franchises. I love both of the series, but am not a fan of Lautner. I hope that he has been taking some acting classes and is prepared to step up his game. The film is scheduled for release in 2013.
