Arcade Fire have given an update on the short film Scenes from the Suburbs directed by Spike Jonze. The film is inspired by the band's album The Suburbs. In addition to featuring their music, the short was co-written by the band's Win and Will Butler.

Scenes from the Suburbs is scheduled to premiere at Germany's Berlinale festival next week, but here are some specs: the film is 28-minutes long, shot in color, and stars unewcomers Sienna Blau, Sam Dillon, Zoe Graham, Zeke Jarmon, Paul Pluymen and Ashlin Williamson. Arcade Fire served as exec producers along with their manager Scott Rodger on the film. The film's "concept artist" was fellow Canadian Marcel Dzama, an acclaimed illustrator who also directed an animated promo for Arcade Fire's Madison Square Garden concerts last summer.

Thanks to the festival's programme summary we now know that the short will open with some mysterious dialogue or lyrics from an as yet unreleased song:

"I wish I could remember every little moment. But I can't/ Why do I only remember the moments that I do/ I wonder what happens to the others." The film-makers then present a series of sentence fragments: "A group of suburban youths. Back then, in the summer, so long ago. They couldn't leave town because outside the country was at war and the military controlled life and all gateways. The teenagers wander aimlessly about town. Winter is a long way off. And love and longing and friendship still mean – everything."

The Guardian reports that Jonze's film will be released as part of a May reissue for The Suburbs that includes new songs.

Arcade Fire will be performing two more shows in the UK, in addition to their June 30 performance at London's Hyde Park. The band also has scheduled performances at Edinburgh Castle's new Tattoo arena on September 1, and Manchester's MEN arena on August 31. North American fans not to worory, the group are also reportedly planning a "cheap" concert in Los Angeles.

Arcade Fire and Spike Jonze worked last on Where The Wild Things Are. I am a huge fan of the band and Jonze is a great director so this is defintiely a film I am looking forward to seeing.
