Johnny Depp talks about his Portrayal of Barnabus in DARK SHADOWS

Movie Johnny Depp by Joey Paur

As you know, Johnny Depp is set to play Barnabas Collins in the upcoming Tim Burton directed film Dark Shadows based on the supernatural 1960's soap opera. Depp is known for going a little far out and nutty with many of the characters he plays in his movies, and he recently revealed in an interview with MTV on how he will portray the character Barnabas in Dark Shadows, saying that he won't stray far from how the original actor Jonathan Frid played the character.

For me, even the conversations I’ve had with Tim, what Jonathan Frid did with that character and that classic look he created, I find it very difficult to stray very far from that. I think it’s going to be somewhere in that arena, with maybe just a couple of different touches here and there.

Barnabas Collins is a 200-year-old vampire who comes accross a youthful woman named Victoria Winters played by Bella Heathcoate, as well as a devious character named Willie Loomis, played in the film Jackie Earle Haley. Depp goes on to expalin what drew him to play the character,

There’s something about this vampire coming back after 200 years into this modern world, with a touch of the poetic, with maybe a tendency to maybe wax a little poetic now and again. I have a good feeling about it. But Jonathan Frid’s Barnabas was so special.

Depp's a talented actor, and I'm sure he'll please all of his fans, and the fans of the original TV series with his portrayal of Barnabus. Watch the video interview below and let us know what you think.
