Matthew Vaughn wants to Deveop a film about Retired Superheros
Director Matthew Vaughn, the man behind Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class may continue his superhero movie streak by developing a new film about retired Superheros called The Golden Age. The title is obviously in reference to to early comic books of the 1930s when Superman and Batman were first introduced.
The movie will be based on an unpublish comic book from British TV chat show host Jonathan Ross, which tells the story of a team of retired superheroes that help out their grandchildren when their middle-aged parents screw the world up.
It seems like Vuaghn is very eager and excited to get this film rolling, and he mentions that he wants to cast the film before the script is even written. Deadline gives his wish of aging stars to play the retired superheroes, and that list includes, Clint Eastwood, Jack Nicholson, and Warren Beatty. I would love to see a cast like this come together for this movie but I seriously doubt it will happen. I'll be shocked if it does.
There's no word yet on if Vaughn's script collaborator Jane Goldman will write this movie for Vaughn, but I wouldn't doubt it, after all Goldman wrote both X-Men: First Class and Kick-Ass for him, but Vaughn makes a point of saying that he may hire other writers, and it's a project he may not ultimatley direct himself even though he's excited about it. According to Deadline, "Vaughn believes the success of The Expendables and Red shows that audiences are open to the idea of older action heroes. 'You have these great star names and they’re mainly playing supporting roles now. I want to give them the lead again and let them have some fun.'"
I would love to see this movie happen with Vaughn's dream cast. It sounds like it could be a lot of fun. What do you all think?
