Universal is making The Bourne Legacy without Matt Damon, so the studio is now forced to find an actor to take on the role. Variety reports that a shortlist has been leaked for Tony Gilroy's film that shows who they're considering to fill the shoes of Damon?
Included in the list are, Jake Gyllenhaal, Garrett Hedlund, Taylor Kitsch, Kellan Lutz and Tobey Maguire. Everyone makes sense on the list accept for Maguire, he just doesn't have the muscular build for the role of a highly trained CIA agent. The article does not say who was up for which role. The list is a mix of both actors Gilroy is interested in for the part and actors the studio is pushing. Universal has yet to comment on the list, making the casting process even more interesting. Gilroy plans to screentest all of the actors, so an unknown actor could land the role. The Bourne Legacy is currently scheduled to begin production this Spring.
Gilroy wrote all of the prior films so I am hopeful that he has a vision for the film that works without Jason Bourne. It is hard for me to picture it, but I will remain optimistic. What are your thoughts on this news?
