Jose Padilha in talks to Direct ROBOCOP Reboot

MGM is getting the Robocop movie remake back on track. The studio is currently in talks with Brazillain director Jose Padilha to helm the film, which means Darren Aronofsky is no longer an option unfortunately. Aronofsky is the only reason I had any interest in a Robocop remake. He left the project do to MGM financial problems at the time. Padilha is probably best known for directing Elite Squad and Elite Squad 2.

The original film told the story of a cop who was blown to pieces by a blood thirsty mob. His brain was saved and was turned into a powerful badass cyborg cop. Of course the suppressed memories of his past life come back to haunt him. Robocop was originally played by Peter Weller.

I have no interest in seeing this remake at all, especially since it looks like Aronofsky is completely out of the picture. He could have made it interesting. Now I have this feeling it's just going to end up being a very average mediocre movie.

What do you all think about Padilha possibly directing the Robocop remake?
