Fredrik Bond is making the jump from video and commercial directing to helm Mandate's untitled romantic action vehicle for Zac Efron written by Matt Drake.
The project is from the 2007 Black List and was originally titled The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman. Now that Bond has signed on to direct the film, Efron has finally committed himself to the project.
Efron stars as "a suburban kid who travels to Eastern Europe to find himself and falls for a young woman. The only thing standing between them is her charismatic, dangerous ex from a criminal underworld. Armed with little more than his wit and naive charm, Efron endures one bruising beatdown after another in order to woo the girl he loves and achieve salvation."
I am not a huge fan of Efron's past role, but am looking forward to seeing him in an action film. The story sounds pretty cool.
