Jennifer Lawrence Lands the Lead Role in THE HUNGER GAMES

It's been rumored for a few weeks now that Winter's Bone star Jennifer Lawrence has been Lionstage and director Gary Ross' first choice to take on the lead role of Katniss Everdeen in the upcoming film adaptation of The Hunger Games book series. It's now been confirmed that she's officially been cast. The deal is done, she will play Katniss in the movie.

I know there's a few people that don't really like the idea of her plying this character, but I think it's a great choice, Lawrence is a freakin' great actress, and in the end I think fans of the book series will be pleased with what she brings to the character.

According to the report she's signed on to multiple films in case the movie becomes a big hit and the studio decides to move forward with adapting the other books written by Suzanne Collins

The Hunger Games takes place in the futuristic ruins of North America, which crumbled and was replaced by a Capitol and 12 districts. Each district is forced to supply 2 teenagers, between 12 and 18. They participate in The Hunger Games, a televised reality series that pits the contestants against one another in a battle to the death. The heroine is 16-year old Katniss Everdeen, a skilled hunter who’s adept with a bow and arrow. She replaces her younger sister, who was chosen in a lottery. She is joined by a baker's son who is also chosen from her dirt poor home district.

I loved the book that this movie will be based off off, and if you haven't read it yet you should definitely check it out. I'm really excited to see this story brought to life on the big screen, and I think Gary Ross will do a great job directing the film, and Lawrence is a perfect choice for the lead character. The script for the film was writer by Billy Ray and the film is scheduled to be released on March 23, 2012.
