PERCY JACKSON Sequel has gone into Development

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief was such a terrible movie, it seemed like the fans of the book series didn't even care for it that much, but according to a new report, Fox 2000 is going to move forward with a sequel. The studio has already hired screenwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski to write the film. They also wrote Tim Burton's Ed Wood and Agent Cody Banks. Yeah, I was also shocked to find out that the guys who wrote Ed Wood also wrote Agent Cody Banks. They are currently working on the script.

The LA Times had this to say, "according to a person who has been briefed on the project's status but was not authorized to speak publicly about it. The movie would be subtitled The Sea of Monsters and derive from the second book in Rick Riordan's five-book series."

The film is still very early in the development process, and the studio hasn't even brought in a director. The director of the first film Chris Columbus isn't expected to return, but it looks like he will be a producer on it along with Breaking Dawn producer Karen Rosenfelt, who also produced Lightning Thief.

Logan Lerman who played Percy Jackson in the first film, will come back to reprise his role. The sequel could end up shooting as early as next summer.

The first film pulled in around $226 million dollars, I guess the studio feels that's enough to warent a sequel. Unfortunately for them the first film was disliked by so many people I doubt it will make that much the second tim around.

What do you all think about a Percy Jackson sequel? Did any of you like the first film enough to see another one?

Here's a little description of the book:

After a summer spent trying to prevent a catastrophic war among the Greek gods, Percy Jackson finds his seventh-grade school year unnervingly quiet. His biggest problem is dealing with his new friend, Tyson—a six-foot-three, mentally challenged homeless kid who follows Percy everywhere, making it hard for Percy to have any "normal" friends.
