Francis Lawrence in Talks to Direct HOUDINI Biopic

Sony Pictures is moving forward with developing their Houdini biopic film project that they've been wanting to get around to for years. Producer Jimmy Miller (The Other Guys, Bad Teacher) and the studio are currently in talks with Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend, Water for Elephants) to direct the movie.
Sony's been wanting to get this epic bipic off the ground since the 1990's when Paul Verhoeven was attached to direct a Houdini biopic that was said to shed light on the magician's mysterious life. According to Variety, "The revamped project will take a new approach, sources said, though it will still have a period setting."
There are a few Houdini projects being developed right now, but they're all fictionalized versions little little bits of truth. Summit Entertainment is developing one called the Secret Life of Houdini, which is a action thriller featuring a Houdini character who is part Indiana Jones and part Sherlock Holmes, documenting his rise as a magician along with his covert involvement with the Secret Service.
I'm actually more excited about a film that tells the true life events and experiences of one of the greatest magicians to have ever lived. I hope this turns out to be it. What do you all think?
