James Vanderbilt already writing AMAZING SPIDER-MAN sequel

Movie by

James Vanderbilt has begun writing a sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man for Columbia Pictures. The studio has so much faith in the film that is has begun working on the sequel. It is a great sign that Vanderbilt (who penned the current film) has met with the Spider-Man filmmakers and studio execs yesterday outlining his take, getting a thumbs up, and will now begin writing.

Vanderbilt has been entrenched in the Spider-Man universe since joining for Spider-Man 4, when Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire were planning to continue the series. What makes Vanderbilt stand out is his character-driven approach instead of focusing on special effects. He has even worked on an outline for a trio of films. He was brought on to work on the character-focused reboot. (Alvin Sargent also worked on the new script.)

Vanderbilt has worked on some other cool films, including David Fincher's Zodiac and recently polished the Total Recall remake for Columba. Amazing is scheduled for release in 3D on July 3, 2012. I am very excited about seeing this film and am very excited about the possibilty of sequels.
