Viggo Mortensen drops out of SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN
Snow White and the Huntsmanseems to be missing it's huntsman. Up until last night, Viggo Mortensen, was in protracted negotiations for the role, but those talks have now ended. Mortensen would have starred opposite Kristen Stewart (Snowhite) and Charlize Theron (Evil Queen) in one of several Snow White projects currently in development. The film does have commercial director, Rupert Sanders, making his directorial debut and Joe Roth producing.
Negotiations have been contentious with Mortensen since the beginning, the actor asked for $8 million as well as gross participation, according to THR. The deal apparently even collapsed at one point, and Mortensen seriously considered playing the villain role in Warner Bros’ new Superman movie. The talks have since resumed, but sources now claim the deal fell apart again last night. It is not known if the deal is dead or simply a negotiating tactic by Mortensen. THR reports that as of now, Universal is moving on.
Huntsman was set to bring a heavier dose of action to the fairy tale, which plays up the relationship between White and the Huntsman. The new film had Snow White on the run after being banished by the evil queen. The Huntsman takes her under his wing to protect her, and she becomes his protege, learning how to fight and defend herself.
I am still excited about this film, with or without Mortensen. It will be interesting to see if the deal ends up coming together or if it's truly dead. If it is dead, who do you think would a good fit for the Huntsman?
