Will There Be New Characters Introduced in Jackson's THE HOBBIT?

I love it when new movie news comes out for Peter Jackson's The Hobbit.  This may not be the best news for some people, but I think that it is great. I am no expert, but I can understand the need to add and take away from the text to help the visual story move smoothly.

bleedingcool announced what one of the new characters will be. Here is a description of Itaril:

[ITARIL] FEMALE, A WOODLAND ELF, this character is one the Silvan Elves. The Silvan Elves are seen as more earthy and practical. Shorter than other elves, she is still quick and lithe and physically adept, being able to fight with both sword and bow. Showing promise as a fighter at a young age, ITARIL was chosen to train to become part of the Woodland King’s Guard. This is the only life she has ever expected to live, until she meets and secretly falls in love with a young ELF LORD. This role will require a wig and contact lenses to be worn. Some prosthetic make-up may also be required. LEAD. AGE: 17-27. ACCENT – STANDARD R.P.

Actress Saorise Ronan (The Lovely Bones, Hanna) will be taking on this role.  I am not 100% sure how significant this role will be to the story, but I trust PJ's judgement and I know that he will do nothing that will destroy the integrity of the original story.

In an interview with The LA Times Ronan said:

Pete is adding a lot of characters in the film adaption.

I know that a lot of purists out there will not like the fact that there will be "never before seen" characters in the film.  You all should be reassured that PJ did not let us down before with LOTR, so why would he do it now?

I am truly exicted for the finished product of this film.  Like always, when we get more info on the films, we will bring it to you all.  Until next time, let us know what you think.
