Looks Like We'll see a VOLTRON Movie in 2 to 3 Years!

Movie Voltron by Joey Paur

We've been hearing about a live-action Voltron movie for years. We've seen script reports and concept art, but nothing ever seemed to move forward, there just seemed to be a lot of talk, no action.  Now it looks like the classic 1980's animated series is actually going to find it's way to the big screen. A bidding war has just broke out between several studios on the movie franchise, and it's being lead by Relativity Media. If everything goes as planned we'll see a Voltron movie within two or three years.

So why have we had to wait so long for this to finally happen? You think it would have happened years ago. A Voltron movie seems like a no-brainer. According to Vulture the main problem holding up the film was that the rights to the franchise were in question. One company had the TV rights to the property, another company had the movie rights, and apparently no one could work together on it. Now a St. Louis-based company called World Events Productions owns both the TV and movie rights to Voltron and they are developing a new animated TV series called Voltron Force, which is set to air in May on Nicktoons, so of course they want to get the film up and running as well.

There's no information on if they will incorporate any of the previously developed concept art or scripts for this film, but I imagine they'll start from scratch. It's also not clear who will end up ultimately distributing the film yet, but one thing we do know is that we can expect to see Voltron the movie in 2013 or 2014.
