Blake Lively is currently the front-runner for the female lead in Oliver Stone's Savages. She is currently being sought for the role of Glinda the Good Witch in Disney's Oz, but may be doing Savage's instead. Stone will write and direct the pic, which follows"two pals from Laguna Beach pals share the same girlfriend and a thriving business growing and distributing the best-quality pot on the planet. When they resist being muscled by a Mexican drug cartel , the girl is kidnapped and the ransom is every cent they've made for the last five years. They agree to pay but hatch an alternate plan to get her back, get revenge, and then get lost." Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch are are slated to play the two male leads, with Benicio del Toro negotiating for one of the cartel enforcers. Salma Hayek and Uma Thurman have also been eyed for roles.
Jennifer Lawrence was the fron-runner before getting the coveted role of Katniss in The Hunger Games. Teresa Palmer and Olivia Wilde also met with Stone for the role. According to Variety, Lively has not received an offer, but she is Stone's top choice.
Here is what Lively had to say at CinemCon earlier this month:
"I'm a huge fan of Oliver Stone. I would love to … when you look at directors that you want to work with, he's always on the top of the list. It would be a dream to be able to work with him."
Savages is being distributed by Universal and filming is slated to being in June, but all is riding on Stone locking up his Ophelia. As it stands, shooting schedules for Savages and Oz would make it difficult for her to do both, though sources close to Lively say several options are still being considered.
I love the cast for this film and think Lively would be a good fit. What are your thoughts?
