Movie Review: SCREAM 4 - As a fan of the Scream Franchise... I Loved It!

ReviewMovie Scream by Joey Paur

As a huge fan of the original Scream trilogy I’m happy report that Scream 4 was completely awesome! I was ecstatic when I heard a fourth Scream film was going to get made, and over the months I’ve built up the hype in my mind so much that my expectations for it were through the roof. I was so relieved that the film delivered on everyone of my expectations, I loved this movie and I had a hell of a fun time watching it.

I think nostalgia played a big part in how much I liked the movie because I thought it was great to see all the original characters back together again, fighting off the ghost face killer. Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox were all great up on the big screen again. It’s like the chemistry between the three actors never went away.

I thought that the new younger generation of teens they cast in the film to kind of take over the franchise would help in ruining the movie for me, but it didn’t! In fact it made the whole movie going experience so much better and even more rewarding. I loved what they did with these characters in the movie. I love what they represented. You may be wondering why I think this... well, I can’t really tell you without spoiling the movie, but as the tag line for the film goes, “New Decade, New Rules.” I ultimately loved the outcome of the movie and all of the characters. Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson did a fantastic job bringing this film to life, and at the same time they don't allow it to fall in the trap of getting a reboot, which is awesome.

I’ll admit I pretty much figured out who the killer is within the first 30 minutes of the film, but it was still a blast watching the whole story play out, because there was a good amount of crazy fun surprises that I didn’t see coming. In case you were wondering, the movie didn’t go over the top crazy on all of the blood and gore. It pretty much stays in line with what the previous films had done, but as you know from the previous films, the blood and gore isn’t the main point of the movie, it’s the characters, story, events, surprises, society, and of course taking fun shots at the horror movie genre.

For those of you that are fans of the Scream franchise you know how important the opening sequence for the movies are. They set the tone for the rest of the film, and the opening sequence for Scream 4 was one of my most anticipated moments of the movie, and they completely nailed it, I thought it was pitch perfect.

Scream fans are going to love this movie. People that never watched the previous Scream films won’t really get it or connect with it or the characters, and people that didn’t like the original Scream films definitely won’t like Scream 4. This movie was really made for the fans of the Scream franchise... like myself.

In my opinion the movie was freakin’ awesome and I have to recommend that you go out and watch the movie. But before you do, you may want to watch the original Scream trilogy, especially if you haven’t watched them yet, because seriously, there’s no point in watching Scream 4 if you haven’t seen Scream 1, 2, and 3.

If I were to rate the all the Scream films from favorite to least favorite I’d say, Scream is my number one favorite, from there it goes Scream 4, Scream 2, and Scream 3.

If you watched Scream 4 tell me what you thought!
