Ben Affleck won't be doing THE GREAT GATSBY
Earlier this month is was reported that director Baz Luhrmann wanted Ben Affleck to play Tom Buchanan in his 3D film version of The Great Gatsby. The actor was actually offered the role, but it doesn't look like he's going to be able to be involved with the adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic story.
It's not that he didn't want to do it, they just couldn't work out a schedule. Affleck is committed to direct a film called Argo based on the 1979 Iran hostage crisis, in the Middle East. The films will be shooting around the same time. They tried to work something out but ultimately couldn't.
I was actually looking forward to seeing Affleck in this role, the guy is on the right track with his career and he's starting to pick better projects than what he used to do.
So far Luhrmann has got Leonardo DiCaprio playing Jay Gatsby, Carey Mulligan playing Daisy Buchanan, and Tobey Maguire playing Nick Carraway. This is such an awesome cast so far, and it will be interesting to see who will take on the role of Tom now that Affleck is out. It looks like this is shaping up to be a great film.
