Lindsay Lohan cast as Kim Gotti in GOTTI: THREE GENERATIONS
Lindsay Lohan is joining cast of Gotti: Three Generations as Kim Gotti, the wife of John Gotti Jr. in the biopic. Lohan was initially up for the role of Victoria Gotti. Earlier we reported that she was not in consideration for the role, which makes sense because she was offered this role.
John Travoltawill play the role of John Gotti Sr., and Joe Pesciwill play one of his deputies. John Gotti Jr. has insisted he left the mob life in the 1990s, but has been unsuccessfully tried four times on racketeering charges. Marc Fiore of Fiore Films is developing the film after buying the rights to Gotti's book, which focuses on Junior Gotti's relationship with his father. The film is being shot on location in New York and is set for a 2012 release.
Lohan called her casting, "a huge honor" and said that the "film is an opportunity to prove herself as an actress again," in a statment to The Associated Press. She went on to say,"I'm really excited to be back on set and clear up all the misinterpretations about me and show this is what I love to do."
She went on to say, "I think it's such an iconic story. I think it's a great story to be told. I'm honored to be working with John Travolta and Joe Pesci."
The casting of Lohan makes sense to Lohan, because her life is very similar to Kim's. She went on to talk about the difference between this story and other mob movies which "veer toward shoot-'em-up fare," she said:
"You don't get to see the heart behind the story and the real side of people. I can relate to that because I think that I've been portrayed in a certain light. I just want to do my best to show what their family really went through."
Lohan has had a number of legal problems, but said they will not be a distraction to the film:
"I think in the past, I had a lot of distractions. I've learned a lot. I've lived a lot. When I'm on set, it's about the film."
Fiore Films is making a commitment to Lohan. She is also set to appear in Mob Street, a movie based on a screenplay by Chazz Palminteri. Here is what Fiore had to say:
"We're very pleased to have Lindsay on-board for both of these films. She has been very enthusiastic about the Gotti project, and after resuming discussions with her, we were impressed by her commitment to the film and felt she would be the perfect Kim Gotti."
I am interested to see this film and think Lohan's casting as Kim makes more sense than her playing Victoria. Travolta and Pesci are going to be perfect for the film and shooting in New York will add a sense of authenticity to the film. I am hopeful that Lohan will be able to get her life back in order, let's hope that this film is a way of helping her.
