Johnny Depp has been confirmed for a role in Columbia Pictures' feature adaptation of 21 Jump Street. Earlier we reported that Depp was interested in a cameo in the upcoming film. The film is written and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) and stars Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Ice Cube, Brie Larson, Rob Riggle, DeRay Davis, Dave Franco and Jake Johnson.
The movie follows two undercover cops (Hill and Tatum), who are assigned to work in schools. Cube is playing the police chief and Larson is the female lead. Depp got his start starring as Officer Tom Hanson. The Fox TV series ran from 1987 to 1991 and Depp starred in 80 episodes.
At first I was not too excited about the feature film because of Tatum's casting. My thoughts have changed as of late. The supporting cast is the main reason this film looks enjoyable. I am going to give Tatum another chance, let's hope he does well in a comedy/action film.
