Sony buys SAVE THE DATE pitch

A pitch written by Tom Gormican called Save the Date has been purchased by Sony Pictures. The romantic comedy will be produced by Neal Moritz and his Original Film banner. According to Deadline, the story takes place during wedding season in New York City. "In the run-up to a big celebration, the lives of many Gotham couples intersect as they explore the question of what marriage means today, and why anybody chooses that fate." The project is being executive produced by Toby Ascher and Liz Buraglia is supervising for Original. Gormican wrote last year's Black List scripte, Are We Officially Dating?. This deal was in the low six-figures and follows his recent hire to write Emily Post for Warner Bros.
This is a movie that my wife is surely interested in seeing, while I am note. I am not a fan of most romantic comedies, finding them boring because they typically resolve the film with a happy ending. There's nothing wrong with happy endings, but it can get old when every film ends with a nicely wrapped up closure for the characters.
