Gary Ross to Direct a new CYRANO DE BERGERAC Film

Movie Gary Ross by Joey Paur

The same creative team who is currently in the process of adapting The Hunger Games for the big screen, will team up once again to bring us another film adaptation of the classic story Cyrano de Bergerac. Gary Ross is set to direct the film project which is being produced by Nina Jacobson

The pitch for the film came from John Whittington, and is being set up over at New Regency. The movie will be a contemporary story revolving around Cyrano de Bergerac, a man who is in love with a woman but is forced to woo her surreptitiously on behalf of a far more handsome but less expressive suitor. Only this time around the story will be told using todays technology and social media tools, so you can easily see where they are going with this. We've come a long way from having someone hiding in a bush whispering the words for someone to say. It's much more easier these days to pose as a different person using today's technological advances and social media tools. But, it still doesn't make the story anymore exciting or interesting, it's still the same story.

One of my favorite film adaptation's of Cyrano de Bergerac is Steve Martin's 1987 Roxanne, which also stars Daryl Hannah. If you haven't seen it yet you should check it out because it's pretty funny.
