Joel Edgerton & Luke Evans in Talks to Join THE GREAT GATSBY

Last month is was reported that Ben Affleck was in talks to play Tom Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann's 3D adaptation of The Great Gatsby. He was offered the role but ultimately had to pass due to scheduling issues. The film is based on the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic novel and is at Warner Bros. I absolutley love this story, but I have no idea why they feel it needs to be shot in 3D.

Now according to inside sources Joel Edgerton (Animal Kingdom) and Luke Evans (Clash of the Titans) have read for the same role. No decision or offer has been made to either actor, but one of them will most likely get it. Whoever is cast will join Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan in the movie. Either one of the actors could end up doing a decent job in the role.

Buchanan's character is the husband of Daisy (Mulligan)/ Bruce Dern originated the role in the 1974 film. DiCaprio will take on the role of Jay Gatsby, and Maguire plays Nick Carraway. The script was written by Luhrmann and Craig Pearce. Casting is still ongoing for the roles of Jordan Baker (originated by Lois Chiles), the gas station owner George Wilson (Scott Wilson) and his wife Myrtle (played by Karen Black in the original). Tom is having an affair with Myrtle, and they all play a role in a tragedy.
