THE CASE BOOK OF VICTOR FRANKENSTIEN getting Big Screen Adaptation

The one Frankenstein film I'm dying to see up on the big screen is Guillermo del Toro's vision, but at this rate it I have no idea when and if it's ever going to actually happen. So to tied us over we are going to get a few more Frankenstein movies that are in various stages of getting made.

The latest project is a film adaptation of the Peter Ackroyd novel called The Casebook of Victor Frankenstein, which has attached Pulitzer-winning Proof playwright David Auburn to write the script. The movie is set up at Sam Raimi's production company Ghost House Pictures, and the "story covers the youthful days of Frankenstein, who begins experimenting with corpses, influenced by the outspoken English poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, whose Mary wrote the book. She's a character in the film as well."

So on top of this and the Del Toro adaptation, Summit Entertainment is developing one based on the Kenneth Oppel book This Dark Endeavor: The Apprenticeship of Victor Frankenstein, which is being produced by Twilight Saga’s Karen Rosenfelt. Columbia Pictures is working on a film simply called Frankenstein, which is a contemporary re-telling of the classic tale. Even Guns n Roses guitarist Slash, and his Slasher Films teamed up with Scout Productions on a Jay Russell-attached project called Wake the Dead, which is a Frankenstein tale based on the graphic novel by Steve Niles (30 Days of Night).

It's amazing to see that Frankenstein is more popular than ever. I have a feeling most of these are going to end up being crap films which is why in my mind Del Toro's vision is the only one that matters. The question is will these film do well at the box office? If they don't, if we get overloaded with Frankenstein, there is a possibility that all of these films could kill any chance of Del Toro's vision getting off the ground. What do you think?
