Saoirse Ronan Cast in the Film Adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's THE HOST

Hanna star Saoirse Ronan has landed the lead role in the feature film adaptation of The Host, based on the book written by Twilight author Stephenie Meyer. This is a sci-fi style story that has alien parasites in it called the Souls who take over Earth by inhabiting human bodies. At some point one human’s brain fights back. Personally I don't think Meyer's is really all that talented, of course the Twilight crowed would have to disagree with me, but that's ok. The quality of Meyer's work speaks for itself.

Saorise is a fantastic young actress that has done some great work. I thought she was awesome in Hanna, but also did a great job in films such as The Lovely Bones and Atonement. She is also set to co-star in The Hobbit. There's no doubt she'll give a great performance in the film.

She "will play Melanie Stryder, one of the last humans putting up a fight against an alien species called Souls. These parasites invade human bodies, fuse to each person's consciousness and systematically erase their personalities. Melanie is captured by the aliens and implanted by a Soul called Wanderer (who Saorise will also play), something of a legend because of all of the "hosts" she has attached to on numerous planets. Wanderer's goal is to get Melanie to give up the remaining pockets of humans, but instead the alien finds Melanie to be unique in her unwillingness to surrender her consciousness. Wanderer is so overwhelmed by Melanie's memories and feelings, the alien is driven to reconnect with Melanie's old life."

Apparently this book has a pretty big following, but I've heard from several Twilight fans that this book isn't as good, which could mean one of two things. It's either better than the Twilight series or it's worse. This story is considered being more mature subject matter, which is why some of the Twihards might not like it.

The last we heard the film was going to be directed by Susanna White (Nanny McPhee Returns , Generation Kill) from a script written by Andrew Niccol (Gattaca, The Truman Show).

What are your thoughts on Ronan being cast in The Host.

Heres the description from the book:

In this tantalizing SF thriller, planet-hopping parasites are inserting their silvery centipede selves into human brains, curing cancer, eliminating war and turning Earth into paradise. But some people want Earth back, warts and all, especially Melanie Stryder, who refuses to surrender, even after being captured in Chicago and becoming a host for a soul called Wanderer. Melanie uses her surviving brain cells to persuade Wanderer to help search for her loved ones in the Arizona desert. When the pair find Melanie’s brother and her boyfriend in a hidden rebel cell led by her uncle, Wanderer is at first hated. Once the rebels accept Wanderer, whom they dub Wanda, Wanda’s whole perspective on humanity changes. While the straightforward narrative is short on detail about the invasion and its stunning aftermath, it shines with romantic intrigue, especially when a love triangle (or quadrangle?!) develops for Wanda/Melanie.
