Sony Pictures to Adapt HEAVEN IS FOR REAL for the Big Screen

Looks like Sony Pictures is going to tap into the hearts and wallets of all those religious folks out there. They have acquired the rights to a book from Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent called Heaven Is For Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip To Heaven And Back

This is based on the true story about a pastor whose four-year old son Colton, almost died during an emergency appendectomy operation. As he recovered, Colton began telling his family that he went to Heaven, and how he looked down at the doctors operating on him and his father praying in the waiting room. He ended up going into detail about his miscarried sister, and his long-dead grandfather, none of which he should have known about. He shared with his family his experience in Heaven before he was sent back to his family.

This is definitely going to be a very inspiring story that many people will want to see. Alice in Wonderland producer Joe Roth is taking on the producing duties for the film project. Whether you believe in this kind of thing or not, faith based films have the power to make a lot of money.

Here's a description of the book:

Heaven Is for Real is the true story of the four-year old son of a small town Nebraska pastor who during emergency surgery slips from consciousness and enters heaven. He survives and begins talking about being able to look down and see the doctor operating and his dad praying in the waiting room. The family didn't know what to believe but soon the evidence was clear.

Colton said he met his miscarried sister, whom no one had told him about, and his great grandfather who died 30 years before Colton was born, then shared impossible-to-know details about each. He describes the horse that only Jesus could ride, about how "reaaally big" God and his chair are, and how the Holy Spirit "shoots down power" from heaven to help us.

Told by the father, but often in Colton's own words, the disarmingly simple message is heaven is a real place, Jesus really loves children, and be ready, there is a coming last battle.
