First Look at SUPERMAN From DC's New ACTION COMICS Relaunch

ArtComic Book Superman by Joey Paur

This saturday night at the Hero Complex Film Festival in Hollywood CA DC artist Jim Lee and writer Geoff Johns sat down to talk about the future of DC Comics, and the reboot of several of their popular characters. One of the most interesting things about this Q&A is when they started talking about the relaunch of Action Comics #1. Above is our first look at the the new Superman from artist Rags Morales, and it's definitely not what I expected to see. The Man of Steel is looking a lot more casual these days, sporting rolled up jeans with patches, work boots, a superman t-shirt and he keeps the cape.

During the Q&A they showed a video message from comic book writer Grant Morrison talking about what they have planned for Action Comics saying, "It's a big honor and responsibility to relaunch Action Comics #1." He went on to say that they want to recreate Superman for the 21st century, and "do something that's a little bit new." They have changed some of the basics of the story, and reintroduce familiar characters in some unfamiliar ways. They're going to bring us an unexpected take on Superman, and give us a "different side of the character that we've never seen before." Morrison goes on the say say the he and artist Rags Morales are trying to create a "new language" for comics storytelling things that only comic books can pull off. He concluded by saying that he hopes fans follow them into this "ridiculous voyage into the unknown. As for the suit design above, they also said that there would be an evolution of the suit, so we see how the final suit comes into play.

What do you think about the direction they want to go with this Action Comics reboot?
