New iPhone app attempts to thwart rude movie goers

A recent article in The Sun talks about a new Apple software being developed for iPhones that will “sense when people are trying to video live events — and turn off their cameras.”

The article goes on to say:

If an iPhone were held up and used to film during a concert infra-red sensors would detect it. These sensors would then contact the iPhone and automatically disable its camera function. People would still be able to send text messages and make calls.

I really do not agree with this, people should be able to record live events such as concerts. As SlashFilm brings up, this would be better suited for stopping rude movie goers from texting or calling while in the theater. I am surprised that an app developer or a movie theater chain has not devleoped some form of tech like this already.

I have read of times when a night out at a movie theater were held at the same level as attending a live stage production, ushers escorted everyone to their seats and would not allow people into the theaters after the feature had begun. If we can not go back to those days, then it would be great if people were not allowed to use phones in a theater.
