Craig Brewer hired to write and direct TARZAN, plans trilogy

Craig Brewer has been hired to write and direct Warner Bros. new installment of Tarzan. Deadline reports that Brewer has crafted a story that will tell the Tarzan saga over three films. This is a passion project for Brewer, who plans to make the first installment his next directing gig. There have been a number of attempts by Warner to relaunch the story of the the hero first created by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Earlier we reported that the studio had another script in the works from Adam Cozad. His version follows the story of a man raised by apes in the jungles of Africa from infancy. Cozad recently penned the Jack Ryan reboot and Archangel, the pic that has Tron: Legacy's Joseph Kosinski attached. At this time it's not known which version the studio will go with. Brewer chose this project over other opportunities after gaining attention for directing the remake of Footloose for Paramount. The project is being produced by Jerry Weintraub.

As I have said earlier, Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes starring Christopher Lambert is my favorite film version to date. I really enjoyed Brewer's Hustle & Flow, and am interested in seeing where this project goes. What are your thoughts on this news?
