Matt Dillon, Brendan Fraser & Craig Robinson to Join FREAKY DEAKY

The film adaptation of the the Elmore Leonard novel Freaky Deaky is moving forward with a full on group of great actors that are currently in talks to join the production. Matt Dillon, Brendan Fraser and Craig Robinson are all going through the process of being cast in the film which is set to be directed by Charlie Matthau from a script that he also wrote. They will join William H. Macy and Camilla Belle who were previously cast in the movie.

The story takes place in Detroit and focuses on a bomb-making ex-couple with radical politics who reunite for a score worth millions, while a cop with bomb squad experience tries to take them down.

According to Deadline, "Dillon plays Chris Mankowski; Fraser plays Skip, the former 60s radical who becomes a Hollywood demolition guy; Macy (who signed on late last year) plays an alcoholic millionaire; and Robinson plays a former Black Panther looking for a way to cash in on his skills."

This project has been trying to get made in Hollywood for years. At one point Quentin Tarantino was going to produce the film. At another time Kurt Russell was attached to star. The project also had Richard Brooks, Monte Hellman and Jim McBride shooting the film at various stages of development.  Sam Rockwell and Hayden Christensen were even rumored to star at one point. The film is now scheduled to start shooting later this month.

Here is a short description of the book:

He used to be on the bomb squad, but it's not until he transfers out that Chris Mankowski really begins juggling with dynamite. Rape and revenge are just the tip of the iceberg in a twisty tale that brings Detroit's denizens to life -- and occasional death -- in all their seedy glory. Electrifying, explosive, and unexpected, this is Elmore Leonard at his suspenseful best.
