Paramount buys rights to DC Comics' THE MIGHTY

Paramount Pictures has purchased the rights to The Mighty, a graphic novel published by DC Comics. The project is being produced by Mary Parent's Disruption at Paramount, along with Benderspink. Warner Bros. would typically handle a DC product, but this one had rights that were controlled by the creators, Keith Champagne and Peter Tomasi. Peter Snejberg is the artist for the comic that has a different take on the supuerhero genre. In The Mighty, the protagonist is mortal, a tough cop. "He hunts a villain who is the superhero and must overcome the obvious disadvantages of going up against someone with superpowers." No studio confirmation was available, but it is expected shortly.

Here is a plot summary of issue#1 from ComicVine:

Welcome to the world of The Mighty! Alpha One – America's first and only Super Hero – is supported by Section Omega, an entire police force devoted to assisting him in his quest for justice. Lt. Gabriel Cole has worked his way up the ranks of Section Omega and his connection to Alpha One reaches back to his own tragic childhood and an accident nobody could have survived. But when murder strikes at the top of the organization, the case falls into his lap, and he'll begin to learn what being a hero is really all about!

Sounds like a pretty cool story that will translate nicely to the big screen. I really like all types of superheros, but there is something to be said for someone without super powers fighting villains.
