Guillermo del Toro not returning for HELLBOY 3?

I have been interested in a third Hellboy feature film from Guillermo del Toro. Unfortunatley, I will have to wait for a long time if it happens at all. The Daily Blam is reporting that Del Toro will not return to the Hellboy universe for a third film (he directed 2004's Hellboy and 2008's Hellboy II: THe Golden Army).

The news came from Mike Mignola, the creator, artist and writer of the comics, while at the Calgary Comics Expo. While discussing the comic book future of the film, he was asked about the future of the films as well. Mignola had this to say in response:

"Last I heard he said he would not make it. Guillermo -- who I love -- in every interview there's a new story on what his next movie is and he honestly believes he's going to do all these things. But last I heard, he said 'I'm never gonna get back to Hellboy. I'm not surprised because he won't live long enough to do a tenth of the movies he's told me he's going to make.

"I can't imagine him (Del Toro) making a Hellboy 3. He's very enthusiastic and says he's going to do all these things....ummm....he's cute [laughed]."

Mignola then mentioned he plans to focus on comics in the immediate future, but stated he had been offered film, TV and gaming offers. I would really love to see another Hellboy movie, but can't imagine anyone else directing it. The same is said for anyone else playing the lead other than Ron Perlman.
