Ian McShane to Play a Dwarf in SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN

Deadwood star Ian McShane has been cast in a role I never in a million years would have thought he would be cast in. He will play the leader of the dwarfs in direct Rupert Sanders live-action adaptation of Snow White for Universal Pictures called Snow White and the Huntsman. Yes, McShane is playing a dwarf, did anyone see this coming? It still isn't registering with me. The actor will play Caesar, the leader of the dwarfs. The movie is putting together quite a talented group of people.

McShane will join Kristen Stewart as Snow White, Charlize Theron as the evil stepmother, and Chris Hemsworth as the burly Eric the Huntsman. It was recently revealed that this Snow white film will have eight dwarfs in it instead of seven Caesar is the oldest of the bunch. According to /Film each of the dwarfs are named after a Roman ruler, so we have Caesar, Nero - the angry one, Tiberius - the biggest and burliest, Hadrian and Trajan - the twins, Constantine - solemn and blind, Claudius - the timid one and Gus - the young, unbearded, seemingly smitten with Snow White. No word on who will play the other dwarfs yet.

The story features an expanded role for the Huntsman, who in the original story lets Snow White go after being ordered to kill her in the woods. In this new version of the story, the Huntsman is haunted by a white wolf that killed his wife, and there's a pervasive sadness about the character that makes the void in his life feel quite real. He'll be chained to Snow White for part of the story as the duo make their escape from a pair of bounty hunters. The Huntsman then serves as a mentor who teaches the teenage Snow White how to fight against her evil step-mother, Ravenna. And just so you know there is a handsome prince involved that will be the love interest.

The movie is will go into production in August, and Universal will release the film in theaters June 1st 2012. What do you all think about Ian McShane playing a dwarf?
