Haley Joel Osment to play Victor Frankenstein in WAKE THE DEAD

Haley Joel Osment is set to star in a modern retelling of the Frankenstein story, according to Variety. The horror film will be directed by Jay Russell based on the graphic novels by Steve Niles (30 Days of Night). Osment will play Victor Frankenstein, "a college student experimenting with reversing death."

Guns ‘n’ Roses lead guitarist Slash is producing, along with Michael Williams and Rob Eric through Slasher Films. Osment has been absent from the acting scene to focus on graduating from college.  thesp has been on hiatus from acting while working on his college degree. Earlier we reported that Fox had hired Max Landis to write a script for their Frankensting project, which has directors like Ron Howard, Paul Greengrass and David Yates circling to direct. In addition, Summit has This Dark Endeavor; Guillermo del Toro and Scott Stuber have another project at Universal; Lakeshore Entertainment has I, Frankenstein, with Stuart Beattie writing and directing; an adaptation of Peter Ackroyd’s novel The Casebook of Victor Frankenstein from Ghost House Pictures and RT Features; and another contemporary take from Columbia Pictures and Matt Tolmach.

It will be interesting to see how this project shapes up. This is the first casting of any of the Frankenstein pics. What are your thoughts on this news?
