Joe Johnston wants to make a Sequel to THE ROCKETEER

Many of you may not know that Joe Johnston's The Rocketeer was originally planned as a trilogy at Disney, but we never saw that second film, let alone a third, which is a shame! The movie bombed at the box-office, but over the years it's built a bigger audience. I loved The Rocketeer, and it would be awesome if we actually got a sequel, I would excited as hell to see these characters return to the big screen.

Johnston recently directed Captain America: The First Avenger, and if it ends up being just as good as The Rocketeer then fan-freakin-tastic. The two movies have a lot of similarities with the style, time period and setting, which is why one of the reason why I always thought Johnson was the perfect director for Captain America. If Captain America: The First Avenger ends up blowing up in theaters, then who knows, maybe we could see a Rocketeer sequel actually happen. Joshnston acknowledges this saying,

I’d love to make a sequel to The Rocketeer. The film didn’t do as well at the box office as we all hoped, but it has endured and generated a following. It was great fun and I’d love to re-explore Cliff Secord’s world. If there are other comic-book heroes who have as human a story as Steve Rogers, I’d be interested. Too many comic-book movies rely on spectacle when the story is weak.

Who knows if a sequel to The Rocketeer will ever actually happen, but we've seen crazier things. Who would have thought we would ever in a million years see a sequel to Tron? I know it's a long shot, but the fans like myself can still hold on for hope.

What do you think?
