Universal buys sci-fi thriller with Justin Lin producing

Movie Justin Lin by

Universal has purchased the rights to an untitled sci-fi crime thriller from assistant turned filmmaker, Bobby Glickert. The project is being produced by Scott Stuber and Justin Lin (Fast Five). Glickert has written the outline for the pitch and is staged to direct and produce the project. Universal is looking to hire a writer to craft the screenplay.

A P.A. on Transformers, Iron Man and most recently on Lin's Fast & Furious, Glickert has also directed a couple short films. One was an action short called The Descendent and the other a horror short called Road to Moloch. He currently has another sci-fi film in development at Paramount, with Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes partners attached as producers, set up a spec sci-fi project at Paramount.

As you can expect, the project is being kept quiet. Lin had the following to say to THR, “Taking a step back, as a viewer, the tone and the gritty approach to the sci-fi genre taken here is something that hasn’t been seen in a while.” The film is said to be in the same vein as the Michael Mann crime thriller Heat and the Jason Bourne spy-action movies.

This sounds like a great concept. I love the Bourne movies and really love Heat. What are your thoughts on this project?
