David DiGilio hired to write TRON: LEGACY sequel

A sequel to Tron: Legacy has gained momentum. David DiGilio has been hired to write the screenplay, and he's sold a pitch for a post-apocalyptic sci-fi series to Showtime titled Last H.O.P.E. Even though the first film was not well received by everyone, it still made over $400 million worldwide. The initial film cost a lot of money, but the sequel is expected to have a much lower budget because the designs and technology have already layed the groundwork.

Earlier we reported that Adam Horowitz and Adam Kitsis were working on a sequel. They have since had to drop out to focus on the fairy tale, Once Upon a Time, debuting on ABC in the fall. Now Digilio has been hired to work on a story that will build on the story started by the first two films. Disney will likely wait and see how the animated Tron Uprising, does on Disney XD next year. The project is currently in the early stages of development, so it is not known if Joseph Kosinski will direct the sequel.

His TV series Last H.O.P.E. sounds like a wise pick up by Showtime. The show stands for the "Last Hospital On Planet Earth." According to THR, it's described as a cross of Mad Max and M.A.S.HDiGilio wrote Eight Below, and created 2007's Traveler. He has recently teamed with Walter Parkes (Sneakers) on a technology thriller titled Daemon.

I liked Tron: Legacy when I saw it on the big screen and am interested in seeing where DiGilio takes this story. What are your thoughts on this news?
