Universal rebooting THE WOLFMAN?

RumorMovie by

There is a rumor circulating that Universal is trying to reboot The Wolfman. They already screwed it up once, so why not do it again? If you have not seen 2010's film starring Anthony Hopkins and Benicio Del Toro then you are better off. In case you don't remember, Mark Romanek (Never Let Me Go) dropped out from directing the film at the very end because of budget issues and Joe Johnston (Captain America: The First Avenger) stepped in to try to fix what he could. Even Johnston said the film was bad, and I don't fault him for trying to fix something that was beyond repair.

Today Moviehole is reporting that the studio is considering rebooting the film and that it could take place as early as next fall! Apparently, there is already a script ready written by Michael Tabb, and it's currently being rewritten. The story is said to “share a link” to George Waggner‘s 1941 version also titled, The Wolf Man. The studio is going forward with the tentative title of“Werewolf, and plans to meet with directors in the weeks to come. Once a director is in place, casting will follow.

This is still just a rumor, with no confirmation from Universal. It's odd that they want ot reboot this so close to their last failed attempt. The fact that werewolves are popular on the big and small screen with Twilight and MTV's Teen Wolf series, can be both good and bad for business. On one hand werewolves seem to be all the rage right now. On the other, it will be interesting to see how this film ends up being marketed to separate itself from the recent lackluster version.
