Johnny Depp setting up THE NIGHT STALKER and PAUL REVERE'S MIDNIGHT RIDE Films

Movie Johnny Depp by Joey Paur

Johnny Depp has lined up two new film projects for himself, that he will produce, and most likely star in. The films are in the process of being set up at Disney through his Infinitum Nihil production company. Disney has made a ton of money off Depp of the years, so I'm sure they will do anything he wants. One film is called The Night Stalker, the other is called Paul Revere's Midnight Ride.

The Night Stalker is an adaptation of a series of 1970's ABC TV movies. The story follows a Chicago newspaper reporter named Carl Kolchak, who investigates mysterious crimes with unlikely causes, particularly ones law enforcement authorities won't pursue. Often these crimes involve some element of the supernatural or science fiction, such as fantastical creatures like vampires, zombies, werewolves and aliens. The series is often credited as being the inspiration for The X-Files. Depp would of course take on the lead role in the film which would be a perfect fit for him. I can also see him bring in Tim Burton to direct a film like this. The studio will bring on a writer soon. This film will push the "boundaries of the family film formula that Disney is following."

Paul Revere's Midnight Ride is being written by Batman Forever screenwriters Lee and Janet Batchler. I'm not the biggest fan of Batman Forever. The story "will follow the Boston silversmith and that 24-hour period in which he made the risky "midnight ride" from Charlestown to Lexington, becoming a seminal figure in the American Revolutionary War." This would be a cool movie. I've always loved that story, and can see it making a solid film.

These both sound like great film projects, and it would be great to see Depp is involved with bringing them to the big screen. It would be a bonus if he actually ends up starring in them as well. What do you think about these two new Depp projects?
