Cary Fukunaga may direct sc-fi pic SPACELESS

Movie by

Cary Fukunaga may be switching genres once again, he is early talks to direct a sci-fi film titled Spaceless. He first directed the gritty immigrant drama Sin Nombre and then released a period drama, Jane Eyre starring Michael Fassbender and Mia Wasikowska with a new take on the classic story. The Playlist is reporting that this project has been moving along quietly since May. They point out a tweet that screenwriter Jeff Vintar (I, Robot) made in May, which said "More good news as Cary Fukunaga (Sin Nombre/Jane Eyre) is in talks to direct my script SPACELESS for producer Gore Verbinski and Universal.” Their sources say that Fukunaga is currently eyeing the film.

Spaceless is said to be a high concept story that centers on "a top assassin hunting a high-profile target in space who must figure out how much of his reality is an illusion and what really matters in life before he can complete the job." This definitely sounds like a great project for Fukunaga to make a jump into mainstream features and will be a much different type of film.

Earlier we reported that he was attached to direct a 1860s civil war heist film No Blood, No Guts, No Glory. It looks as though he may go behind the lens for another film before that. I loved Sin Nombre and have yet to see Jane Eyre, but plan on it when I can on DVD. Fukanaga is a solid director, and one to watch because if Spaceless is not his next big thing, something else wlll be.
