Ethan Hawke to star in horror-thriller for Scott Derrickson

Ethan Hawke is set to star in a new horror-thriller from Scott Derrickson’s from Insidious and Paranormal Activity producer Jason Blum. THR reports that the project is being produced by Blum’s Blumhouse/Possessed Pictures along with Brian Kavanaugh-Jones’ Automatik Entertainment, with Charles Layton serving as executive producer. Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) is scheduled to start filming the low budget horror film on September 19 from a script he co-wrote with C. Robert Cargill. No story details are available at this time.

Hawke recently wrapped production on television adaptation of Moby Dick, starring opposite William Hurt in the role of first officer Starbuck. The two-part Encore telepic premieres on Aug. 1. He is set to star opposite Kristin Scott Thomas in Pawel Pawlikowski’s The Woman in the Fifth, as a college lecturer who flees to Paris after a scandal costs him his job. The actor will also be making a cameo in Len Wiseman’s remake of Totall Recall, starring opposite Colin Farrell and Bryan Cranston.

This sounds like a cool project for Hawke. I liked Emily Rose and am sure this will be a chilling film if Blum is involved. What are your thoughts on this casting news?
