SDCC 2011: ATTACK THE BLOCK panel

Attack the Block is one of my most anticipated films of the year, and I can not wait to see it on the big screen. Venkman, the lucky bastard that he is has already seen it and you can check out his review HERE. Before I start the recap of the panel, I have to say how much better run Hall H is than the rest of the rooms at Comic-Con. The staff has been really helpful for me during my many hours in this hall.

Cornish talked about the concept of how he wanted to mix the world of fantasy with the real world of the London inner city. He talked about how unique the aliens are in Attack the Block instead, something fans have never seen before. From the look of the footage in the clip, I can agree they look awesome.

Next we got to see a clip from the film that has Nick Frost and the rest of the gang on the run to "Ron's Weed Room" and is full of action, scares and a nice amount of blood. It looks epic and has excited me even more for this film.

Fans of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz will be happy to know that Wright and Simon Pegg are planning on working on the third film in the trilogy next month. Wright also revealed that he has officially turned in the script for the long-awaited Ant Man movie, and that it is moving ahead.

Joe Cornish talked about how he did not want the comedy to undermind the heart of the film, and revealed that it draws a lot from John Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13. As a fan of that film, I can see that connection very easily. He also talked about how he wanted to make this film as ambitious as impossible. He then stated that there are no plans on releasing the film with subtitles and stated that he thinks that "audiences are smart" and can decipher the slang because hip hop is internationally known. Cornish then went on to reveal that if a sequel were to happen, it would start immediately after this one ended, but there are no plans at this time.

This is definitely a movie I recommend that everyone see in theaters when it is released. This was a great plan
